What is

Hash Rate?

The total computational power securing a Proof-of-Work blockchain, measured in hashes per second.

Hash rate measures how many hash calculations miners perform per second to find valid blocks. Higher hash rate means more security, as attackers would need more computational power to attempt a 51% attack. Ergo's hash rate comes from GPU miners running the Autolykos algorithm.

Key Points

  • Measured in H/s, TH/s, PH/s
  • Higher = more secure network
  • Reflects mining participation
  • Ergo uses GPU mining (Autolykos)
  • Fluctuates with profitability
  • Key security metric for PoW chains

Common questions about this topic

How to get started with Ergo?

Start by getting a wallet (Nautilus for browser, Terminus for mobile). Back up your seed phrase securely offline. Get some ERG from an exchange (Gate.io, KuCoin) or DEX (Spectrum). Make a test transaction. Then explore: try DeFi on Spectrum, check out NFTs, or dive into the technology if you're a builder.

How do NFTs work on Ergo?

Ergo NFTs are native tokens with quantity of 1, making each unique. Unlike Ethereum where NFTs need smart contracts, Ergo NFTs are first-class protocol citizens. Mint for minimal fees (~0.001 ERG), trade on SkyHarbor marketplace, and enjoy full eUTXO security. NFTs can include rich metadata and royalties.

What is the best GPU for Ergo mining?

For Ergo mining, GPUs with high memory bandwidth perform best. Popular choices include NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, 3070, 3080, and AMD RX 6800 XT. Minimum 4GB VRAM required. The best GPU depends on your budget, electricity cost, and availability. Efficiency (hashrate per watt) matters more than raw hashrate.

How to provide liquidity on Ergo?

On Spectrum Finance, select a pool, deposit equal value of both tokens, and receive LP tokens representing your share. You earn a portion of all trading fees. Withdraw anytime by returning LP tokens. Be aware of impermanent loss if token prices diverge significantly.
